"To sit for one's portrait is like being present
at one's own creation”

 Alexander Smith (1830-1867)

While we won’t claim to ‘create’ anyone, we do feel strongly that no one portrait should be like another; your individuality and our creativity will be satisfied by nothing less!

Before scheduling your session we would like to have a chat with you about what you want. The key to good portraits is finding a photographer with whom you feel comfortable, you are more than welcome to come by and meet us first.

There are as many possibilities as people; we want to explore many of them!

Location

We are located in the easily reached Deanrock Business & Technology Park, just off the South Link Road in between St. Finbarr’s Hurling and Football Grounds and the roundabout on the Tramore Road.

To find us, follow the South Link Road, take the Pouladuff Interchange Exit, head left down the Tramore Road, passing the Garda Station,  continue through the roundabout and look for us in the small industrial estate on the left.

Parking is readily available.

The Shoot

The most striking portraits are a product of a relaxed session in which the photographer can work intuitively and creatively; this is not to be rushed! Having discussed the kind of portraits you would like we will be able to give you an idea how much time to allow for.

You may wish to bring the things that express your personality, for instance, musical instruments, sports equipment (a football, a tennis racket, golf clubs, surfboard), special mementos, etc.

We will take a number of portraits in different poses, some close-ups and some full-length; in the case of families we will create different combinations to show the different family relationships. The Sitting is relaxed and fun, the pace and length of the session different for everyone; we are here to cajole and encourage and respond sensitively to your wishes.

Wardrobe Tips
General

Choose clothes to reflect the look you want: fun, casual, formal, or perhaps something more eccentric. Bring several choices and we’ll help you choose. There is a dressing room for your use available.

For a formal look try mid-tone and deep tones.
For a casual or romantic look try light colours.
For a range of options try neutral, soft, or mid-range colours.

In general clothes should be clean and well pressed.
Solids and simple patterns are best; patterns draw attention away from the subject. Reds and bright blues photograph very well.

Think head to toe: hair, jewellery, clothes, belts, stockings or socks and shoes, all should be clean and suit the overall look; also important as we like to be able to take full-length shots as well as close-ups.

Barefoot? Photos in which everyone is barefoot can have a relaxed, fresh appeal; so that we can have as much flexibility as possible please be prepared to go shoe and sock-less! *But don’t worry, we won’t force you if you’d rather not*

Men should have a fresh shave

Long sleeves make for a more flattering portrait for both male and female adult subjects.
Scoop necklines or V-necks flatter fuller faces and shorter necks.
Turtlenecks and higher necklines flatter slender faces and long necks.

Groups

Follow the tips above but remember to coordinate everyone’s look; choose similar colours or patterns and, above all, styles. Don’t mix casual and formal.

Hair and Makeup

Women should wear a bit more makeup than usual for the photo session especially powder in shiny areas (this is a good suggestion for men, too).

Everyone should use a bit of hair spray on windy days.  It is usually not a good idea to try a new hairstyle for a photo session.  If you want to experiment with a new style or color, you may want to get accustomed to it before your portrait session. Simple hairstyles are best and do not draw the attention away from the subject.

Kids & Babies

Keep your session fun; children quickly pick up on stress. Don’t warn the child in advance to be on her best behaviour - keep it relaxed. Quietly advise the photographer of any special wishes, things to look out for etc – when we need your parental input we will tell you, until then trust the photographer and let her dictate the pace – we have the experience and we love kids!

Babies and children should be fed and well rested.
Bring some changes of clothes, food, diapers, bottles, etc
Bring dry food to avoid soiling
Bring their special things; books, toys, blankets etc

After the Shoot – The Viewing

We’ll schedule a viewing session for you to select the portraits you want. The viewing session normally takes place 3-5 days after your shoot and lasts anywhere from 30 minutes to an hour. During the viewing we will discuss retouching as well as framing and other possibilities for displaying your images.

The viewing session is enjoyable but also requires concentration; we ask that younger children, for their comfort and yours, not be in attendance.

Prices

A sitting at Pineapple Studios costs €70, payable at the time of the session, and includes the Viewing.
Portraits range in price from €85 for a desk portrait to €600 for a very large wall portrait. We offer a number of contemporary and more classic presentation possibilities; framing in our beautiful, specially selected, frames (with or without glass), blockmounting and canvas wrapping. We are happy to discuss your needs and ideas with you.

Why should you have all the fun? We will present you with a Gift Voucher, valid for one year from the date of issue,  which you can pass on to friends or family, with every order totalling €500.

Special Photoshoots

We also do Model Portfolios and Actor Head Shots etc. Contact us for a full list of prices.

Gift Vouchers

A Gift Voucher for a Portrait in Pineapple Studios can be a wonderful and original gift. Available from €70, vouchers are personalized and beautifully presented, and valid for one year from the date of purchase.

The value of the Gift Voucher is entirely up to you; you may, however, like to consider what size of print the receiver of your gift is likely to favour and ensure that they can come in, enjoy a session, come back for the viewing, and walk out with a print under their arm a week or two later.
